Radon Mitigation Systems – Expert Design & Installation

Radon Professional Services

Our radon mitigation specialists are licensed General Contractors and our comprehensive approach to each building ensures radon levels will be reduced to as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA). Cost effective radon mitigation techniques are provided through a process of expert diagnostics applied to the means of radon entry and air movement. Radon reduction systems provided by Radon Professional Services have been successfully designed and installed by our experienced team of professionals in:

  • Single Family Residences
  • Multi-Family Structures (Condominiums and Apartments)
  • Nursing Homes and Adult Living Facilities
  • Public and Private School Buildings and Warehouses

RADON REDUCTION METHODS

Active Soil Depressurization Interior Installation

Active Soil Depressurization Interior Installation is the EPA’s most recommended method for radon reduction. It has proven successful in small residential homes as well as large, multi-story buildings. Its long range success is dependent upon the quality of the installation and the design reflecting the construction characteristics of the building. Radon reduction is achieved by generating negative pressure under the slab floor.

Active Soil Depressurization Exterior Installation

Active Soil Depressurization Exterior Installation is similar to the interior system above, except that the piping is placed on the exterior of the building. The design of this system requires a thorough knowledge of construction and building techniques to ensure no damage is done to the foundation, plumbing, or electrical systems of the building. In most cases, the exterior piping can be designed to blend aesthetically with the exterior appearance of the building. This type of system is generally used when construction features prevent the installation of an interior ASD system.

Crawlspace Sub-Membrane Depressurization

When radon gas penetrates the crawlspace underneath homes and buildings, radon gas can make its way into occupied areas of the building. Our crawlspace sub-membrane depressurization system is used when buildings with crawlspaces below them do not provide enough natural ventilation to neutralize the radon gas emanating from the soil. Sealing the crawlspace will further reduce radon levels, help prevent energy loss, and create a safer storage area.

Commercial Mitigation Applications

Installing radon mitigation systems in commercial buildings requires an in-depth knowledge of construction and building techniques. The basic theory of radon reduction is the same as that applied to residential buildings, but since building codes and construction designs are much different, the mitigation contractor must be thoroughly knowledgeable of relevant codes and construction practices to avoid damaging the structure or violating the building’s structural integrity. Radon Professional Services has worked with hundreds of commercial builders of apartments, nursing homes and office buildings to incorporate Radon Resistant Building Standards into their buildings during construction.

Pre-Construction Radon Prevention

The US EPA and the States of Florida and Colorado have produced technical guidelines or recommended standards for Radon Resistant Construction Techniques for new residential and large building construction. These guidelines and standards are currently employed in many large and small construction projects throughout the US. The systems, if installed properly, can help eliminate the potential for high levels of radon in a completed building. We also are certified in ANSI/AARST CC-1000 Soil Gas Control Systems in all sizes of new construction building projects.

Mechanical Ventilation

Ventilation is most commonly used in the southern part of Florida for radon mitigation in multi-family apartment and condominium communities. The mechanical ventilation radon mitigation system brings in a balanced amount of outside fresh air which serves to dilute the radon gas to below the EPA action level of 4.0 pCi/L while generating a slight positive pressure inside the apartment. This slight positive pressure prevents the entry of radon gas from the slab penetrations.
